Colorado Plateau Challenge

Detailed Itinerary

Dates: June 28 – July 14 (17 Days)

Activity List: Rafting and inflatable kayaking expedition, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, Navajo culture and service.

Arrive and Depart: Durango Airport (DRO) or Deer Hill Basecamp, Mancos, Colorado

Day 1

Arrival day at Deer Hill Basecamp. Good food and getting to know your group and leaders.

Day 2

Orientation to the program and activities. Pack for river expedition; swim in the pond or hike Deer Hill. Home-cooked dinner.

Days 3-7

Depart for river put-in, north of Moab, Utah. Inflatable kayaking and rafting on the Colorado River. River skills and Leave No Trace camping, short hikes and group activities.

Day 7

River take-out. Meet Deer Hill staff for resupply of fresh food and service gear. Souvenir shopping in picturesque Moab.

Days 7-10

Camping, rock-climbing, mountain biking and hiking in the Moab area. Visit Arches National Park.

Days 11-14

Scenic drive to service site in the Navajo Nation, AZ. Service project and cross-cultural interaction in a Navajo community.

Day 15

Finish project, say our farewells, and return to Deer Hill Basecamp for swimming, showers, and a welcoming meal.

Day 16

De-issue gear and prepare for sweat lodge ceremony. Evening cook-out banquet and slideshow.

Day 17

Breakfast, farewells, departure
