Important information about working at Deer Hill Expeditions
Our mission is to enhance the individual's appreciation of the natural world, teach the skills of living in the wilderness with minimum impact, promote stewardship of our Earth, and foster a tradition of service to native lands and peoples. We provide a challenging atmosphere in which young people can be integral members of a small community and grow as individuals. We staff all of our positions with this mission in mind.
Deer Hill offers three areas of employment opportunity: field staff, internships, and apprenticeships. Please read the following descriptions for an overview of each employment area. For more specific information, please click on each heading.
Field Staff: Deer Hill's field staff facilitate wilderness adventures and service expeditions in southwest Colorado, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and Costa Rica. Most field staff work at Deer Hill during the spring and summer seasons. Occasional fall and winter work is also available.
Internships: Deer Hill offers internships for individuals looking for a combination of experience in outdoor education, logistics and administration. Internships are available throughout the year and may include office as well as teaching opportunities. Most internship opportunities last for approximately one semester.
Apprenticeships: Deer Hill's apprenticeship program offers a full year of experience to individuals seeking an in-depth look at outdoor education and recreation administration. The apprenticeship program begins with an administrative focus in the fall and finishes with wilderness field experience the following summer (for qualified candidates).
"Deer Hill is a place for me to combine my love for the outdoors and my passion for sharing it with young people in some of the most beautiful areas in the country. It is amazing for me to watch the participants progress on learning outdoor-based hard skills, but I also find it extremely rewarding to witness the friendships, personal growth, and special bonding that only happens while out on these magical journeys."
