Internships: General Information
Thank you for considering an internship with Deer Hill Expeditions. Deer Hill offers a number of internships that vary in focus, depending upon the season. It is important to note, however, that Deer Hill internships are focused primarily on filed and facilities support. Our average internship commitment ranges from two to three months, however, we are willing to work with personal needs that require longer, or shorter commitments.
Depending on the season, interns may find themselves driving a support shuttle, cooking for a group in camp, assisting with administrative tasks, repairing gear, de-issuing a group’s field gear, or clerking the Deer Hill Store. It is expected that interns learn Deer Hill’s behind-the-scene functions to meet the immediate needs at hand, but also to foster the potential for advancement to a future filed staff position. Choose from the internships below for more specific information.
Location Information
Deer Hill is nestled into a hillside just outside of Mancos, Colorado, a small community between the canyons of the Southwest and the Colorado Rockies. The town of Mancos is within a short drive of remote red-rock canyons to hike, rivers to raft, kayak, or canoe, mountains to summit, and unparalleled archeological sites to explore.
Our 128-acre Basecamp is the logistics center and home to our offices, outfitting store, participant and staff cabins, a few horses and a pond. Outside your door at Deer Hill, you can easily hop on your mountain bike and go for a ride, hike to Flint Rock, swim on a warm day, or run the back roads of southwestern Colorado.
"I find working at Deer Hill to be so personally rewarding and enriching because I get to see young people come alive and grow in so many ways as I share with them my love for the wild places around us."
