Internships: General Information
Thank you for considering an internship with Deer Hill Expeditions. Deer Hill offers a number of internships that vary depending upon the season. Each season brings with it new challenges and needs that allow an internship to take on a particular focus. Although we encourage a minimum of two to four month commitments, shorter internships are possible.
Our internships primarily start out as support and administrative roles and offer the opportunity to learn about behind-the-scenes administrative, risk-management, marketing and logistical operations that are required to support our summer expeditions, custom programs, and facility use. Please note that Deer Hill accepts interns to meet not only the immediate needs at hand, but also to foster the potential for advancement to a field staff position, if an intern meets the required qualifications. Choose from the internships below for more specific information about the information about each season or contact Deer Hill with a proposal of your own.
Location Information
Deer Hill is nestled into a hillside just outside of Mancos, Colorado, a small community between the canyons of the Southwest and the Colorado Rockies. The town of Mancos is within a few hours drive of world class skiing (within 2 hours of Telluride, Durango Mountain and Wolf Creek Ski Resorts), remote red-rock canyons to hike, rivers to raft, kayak, or canoe, mountains to summit, and unparalleled archeological sites to explore.
Our 128-acre Basecamp is the logistics center and home to our offices, outfitting store, participant and staff cabins, a few horses and a pond. Outside your door at Deer Hill, you can easily hop on your mountain bike and go for a ride, hike Flint Rock, go for a swim on a warm day, or go running on the back roads of southwestern Colorado.
"I find working at Deer Hill to be so personally rewarding and enriching because I get to see young people come alive and grow in so many ways as I share with them my love for the wild places around us."
