Winter/Spring Internship Description
Deer Hill seeks assistance with admissions, database entry, general office computer work, and marketing. This is a busy office position where you will help Deer Hill manage the inflow of applications for our summer programs, talk to interested families, and provide support to the Custom Programs that use our Basecamp. The internship may progress into field work during the custom program season in May and summer, if you meet Deer Hill's needs and field staff qualifications.
Our internships primarily start out as support and administrative roles and offer the opportunity to learn about behind-the-scenes administrative, risk-management, marketing and logistical operations that are required to support our summer expeditions, custom programs, and facility use. Please note that Deer Hill accepts interns to meet not only the immediate needs at hand, but also to foster the potential for advancement to a field staff position, if an intern meets the required qualifications. Qualifications
Deer Hill seeks motivated, enthusiastic, and competent individuals with the desire to learn more about the outdoor expedition industry. Previous office and/or field experience is preferable, but all interns will receive plenty of relevant, on-the-job training.
- Good communication and phone skills
- Gear repair (raft/backpack/tent/zipper/etc.) Previous experience is a plus
- Solid computer skills- word processing, spreadsheets, database management, Powerpoint
- Graphics experience is a plus- Photoshop, Illustrator, multi-media, web design/site maintenance
Work Schedule
In general, we maintain a fairly regular schedule, Monday through Friday, 9 am - 6 pm. As we get into our spring custom program season, days are long and action-packed. Be prepared to drive a shuttle, prepare breakfast for a group, or unpack a rafting trip!
Living Arrangements
In the spring season, up to 5 other interns live in the Homestead, a refurbished, fully furnished cabin with bunks, kitchen, living area and bathroom. Laundry facilities are available on site.
