Summer Internship Description
Deer Hill seeks motivated people to assist with major functions of Deer Hill's summer expedition operations:
- Program support: packing expeditions, logistical support, driving shuttles to trailheads and river put-ins, issuing and de-issuing group gear (rafting, backpacking, service equipment, and food), working in the Deer Hill Outfitting Store.
- Administrative support: office admissions and marketing assistance, database management, fielding phone calls, etc.
- Operations support: gear repair, facility maintenance and development, vehicle maintenance, and more
- Applicants can expect to work long hours, learn a lot, and be an integral part of the Deer Hill family.
- Graphics experience is a plus -- Photoshop, Illustrator, multi-media, web design/site maintenance
Summer Internship Qualifications
- High energy, positive attitude, willingness to work long hours
- Previous experience in the field, while not necessary, is a plus.
- Gear repair (raft/backpack/tent/zipper/etc.) Previous experience is a plus.
- Flexible and adaptable to the changing demands of an expedition company
- Willingness to learn many new skills from cooking breakfasts to repairing tent zippers, to changing oil in Deer Hill vehicles, and more!
- Ability to live in close quarters and get along with other people.
- Drivers need to be comfortable driving long distances. (Drivers must be 21 years of age or older with a clean driving record.)
Work Schedule
In the summer, Deer Hill Basecamp runs 24/7. That means days are long and action-packed. Be prepared to drive a shuttle, prepare breakfast for a group, or unpack a rafting trip!
Living Arrangements
In the spring season, up to 5 other interns live in the Homestead, a refurbished, fully furnished cabin with bunks, kitchen, living area and bathroom. Laundry facilities are available on site.
