Spring Internship
Deer Hill will hire up to 4 spring interns to help support the bustling atmosphere of our spring custom programs for schools, private groups and nonprofit organizations. Responsibilities may include gear inventory and repair, helping field staff collect and load gear for transport, running the Deer Hill Outfitting Store, organization of Basecamp facilities, food service, landscaping, office and computer work.

Is it possible to receive field experience with the Spring Internship?
Our intention is to provide qualified candidates with the opportunity to advance towards placement in field programs. However, this cannot be guaranteed in advance. During your internship, we will review your qualifications, work ethic and attitude. If we feel you will be an asset to a field program, at Deer Hill's discretion, you may be assigned a field staff position on a custom program. In a mutually successful arrangement, a spring intern may eventually attend Deer Hill's 2-week field staff training program in June, if he/she is hired for a summer expedition field staff position.

Qualifications
Deer Hill seeks motivated, enthusiastic, and competent individuals with the desire to learn more about the outdoor expedition industry. Previous office and/or field experience is preferable, but all interns will receive plenty of relevant, on-the-job training.

  • Good communication and phone skills

  • Gear repair (raft/backpack/tent/zipper/etc.) Previous experience is a plus

  • Solid computer skills- word processing, spreadsheets, database management, Powerpoint

  • Graphics experience is a plus- Photoshop, Illustrator, multi-media, web design/site maintenance

Spring Work Schedule
In general, we maintain a fairly regular schedule, Monday through Friday, 9 am - 6 pm. As we get into our spring custom program season, days are long and action-packed. Be prepared to drive a shuttle, prepare breakfast for a group, or unpack a rafting trip!

Living Arrangements
In the spring season, up to 5 other interns live in the Homestead, a refurbished, fully furnished cabin with bunks, kitchen, living area and bathroom. Laundry facilities are available on site.

Other Internship Benefits
  • Interns may rent and/or purchase equipment from the Deer Hill store at a reduced rate.

  • Interns may be eligible for pro-deals through the Deer Hill pro-purchase program.

  • As with all our internships, working with Deer Hill provides the potential for expanding professional development.

  • Monthly stipend is listed above.
