Fall Internship Description
Deer Hill seeks assistance with admissions, database entry, general office computer work, marketing, and facility maintenance. Landscape and facility projects are done under the guidance of Deer Hill's Facility Manager. Preparation for the promotional season is also a key part of the position, such as handling inquiries by phone and email, sorting mail, following up with interested participants, entering information into the database, and stuffing envelopes.

Fall Internship Qualifications
Deer Hill seeks motivated, enthusiastic, and competent individuals with the desire to learn more about the outdoor expedition industry. Previous office and/or field experience is preferable, but all interns will receive plenty of relevant, on-the-job training.

  • Good communication and phone skills

  • Gear repair (raft/backpack/tent/zipper/etc.) Previous experience is a plus.

  • Solid computer skills- word processing, spreadsheets, database management, Powerpoint

  • Graphics experience is a plus- Photoshop, Illustrator, multi-media, web design/site maintenance.

Is it possible to receive field experience during a Fall Internship?
Though we do have custom programs scheduled for the fall, our main custom program season is in the spring. We do have programs that align with the Deer Hill mission that use our facility in the fall as well as school and adult expedition programs that are scheduled for September and October. Participation on any of these events and outings will solely depend upon Deer Hill's needs at the time and the personal qualifications of the intern.

Work Schedule
In general, we maintain a fairly regular schedule, Monday through Friday, 9 am - 6 pm. Longer hours and weekend work are occasionally necessary when there is a group in Basecamp.

Living Arrangements
In the fall season, housing is provided for the intern in either the Homestead, or the field staff bunk room. The Homestead is a refurbished, fully furnished cabin with bunks, kitchen, living area and bathroom. The field staff bunk room is a single, carpeted room with several beds. The kitchen and bathroom are located separately from the field staff bunk room. Laundry facilities are available on site.

Other Internship Benefits
  • Interns may rent and/or purchase equipment from the Deer Hill store at a reduced rate.

  • Interns may be eligible for pro-deals through the Deer Hill pro-purchase program.

  • As with all our internships, working with Deer Hill provides the potential for expanding professional development.

  • Monthly stipend is listed above.
