We've created these trips especially for parents who want to experience the "Deer Hill Magic" that was so meaningful for their children, and for past Deer Hill campers who want to relive their experience with family members or significant others. Day 1 Arrive at Grand Junction airport, Colorado; transport to nearby hotel; welcome and orientation.
Day 2 Fly with Redtail Aviation to river put-in at Sand Wash; launch on the Green River; gentle float on first day.
Days 2-7 Rafting and inflatable kayaking expedition through 85 miles of mild to wild whitewater, hiking, Circle.
Day 7 Takeout in Green River, Utah; drive two hours back to Grand Junction; showers, dinner, final activities. Motel lodging.
Day 8 Breakfast, farewells, transport to Grand Junction Airport.

This trip starts and ends in Grand Junction, Colorado. For 6 days, you'll raft and inflatable kayak Utah's Green River as it carves through 85 miles of Desolation and Gray Canyons. In June, the river is at its peak flows, so there will be plenty of action in the 50+ rapids.


Pristine side canyons lead you to crystalline pools, pictographs by Ancestral Puebloans, and relics from early pioneers. Every night, after cocktail hour, dig into delicious meals like Dutch oven lasagna and pineapple upside-down cake. Sleep in a tent or under a sky full of stars.

This journey through the Four Corners shares a rich treasure of geologic and archeological wonders. Rafting on Utah's San Juan River, you float through a landscape of redrock spires and sheer canyon walls. Look for mule deer, bald eagles, and bighorn sheep. You'll see evidence of past civilizations: cliff dwellings, petroglyphs and pictographs, pot shards and "moki steps."


After the river, travel to the Navajo Nation. Spend time with Deer Hill service host families. You can choose to take a horseback ride, or day hike in world renowned Canyon de Chelly. As a conclusion, you can take part in a sweat lodge ceremony, which has been a Deer Hill tradition for 23 years. This trip starts and ends in Durango, Colorado.


Day 1 Arrive at Durango airport, transport to the Deer Hill Basecamp; home cooked dinner, sleep in cabins.
Day 2 Outfit and pack for the week: two-hour drive to Bluff, Utah; launch on the San Juan River.
Days 2-5 Scenic and relaxing float on the San Juan River; 27 miles of redrock canyons, bighorn sheep, peregrine falcons. Fresh foods, golden cottonwoods and sandy beaches for camping.
Day 5 Takeout at Mexican Hat, Utah; drive to Chinle, Arizona; showers and motel lodging; evening with Navajo friends of Deer Hill
Day 6 Choice of day hike or horseback ride in Canyon De Chelly National Monument; picnic lunch, Ancestral Puebloan sites, canyon vistas, traditional Navajo meal and dances. Motel lodging.
Day 7 Leisurely morning, drive back to Deer Hill; optional sweat lodge ceremony, banquet and final activities; sleep in cabins.
Day 8 Breakfast, farewells, transport to Durango airport.
